On the world stage, destinations like Berlin, Barcelona, and Copenhagen are renowned for the majesty and variety of their modern architecture — and rightly so. But what about the less-heralded Latin American metropolis with a portfolio to match its pedigree? 

With more than 22 million residents, Mexico City is one of the largest metropolitan hubs in the world. It's the oldest capital city in the Americas, and the largest Spanish speaking city, too. A community of that size is bound to have its share of problems, and media coverage tends to fixate on issues of crime and pollution.

But look closer and you’ll find a place rich in history, food, arts, culture — and some truly world-class modern architecture.
